Reposing the Birch Tree Giant

Reposing the Birch Tree Giant

How to give your Giant a slightly more dynamic pose

Here I explain how simple it is to convert your slumbering Tree Giant into an aggressive rock-throwing war machine.

Step 1- Remove the left leg of the model.

Step 2 – Etch out a ‘V’ shape behind the knee to allow room for you to bend the leg joint back towards itself.

Step 3 – Twist the head to the side. I did this with some felt covered pliers.

Step 5 – Bend the left arm and fingers to allow for a rock.

Step 6 – Assemble the limbs. Rotate the right arm by 90 degrees at the elbow, with the fingers curling into a fist. Re-attach the left arm and leg with glue and green stuff. The left arm is much higher and more outstretched than originally. Spin the base by 180 degrees so that the left foot is on the rock instead of the right.

Step 7 – Add the rest. Attach the branches as normal. Hide any joins with green stuff and tidy up those main limb joins by sculpting a little bark over the top. Find and glue in a suitable rock for the Tree Giant to hold and bend the fingers around it.

Step 8 – Adding fungus. I thought it might be nice to add a bit of fungus to the leg of the model. This is very simple to do. Add in strips of putty, and etch fine vertical lines underneath whilst leaving the top area smooth.

With that all done, just add the paint!
